Product description
Aqueous hydroxyfunctional polyacrylic dispersion.In the formulation of flexible two-component polyurethane top coats and primers for plastics.
Applications
Bayhydrol® A 2058 is a hydrolysis-resistant polyacrylic dispersion neutralised with dimethyl ethanol amine. The product can be thinned with water to application viscosity. Bayhydrol® A 2058 combined with Bayhydur® ultra 3100 yields high-gloss flexible top coats which are resistant to solvents. The formulation can be applied as a one-coat system on many substrates and has good adhesion and body. Water-borne base coats formulated with, e.g. Bayhydrol® UH 2952/1, can be overcoated with clear coats based on Bayhydrol® A 2058.Two-pack primers can be formulated by combining Bayhydrol® A 2058 with Bayhydur® ultra 3100. These are highly suitable for use on thermoplastics and thermosets and are characterised by excellent adhesion, sandability and water resistance.Bayhydrol® A 2058 has good pigment wetting properties and high shear stability. Sand and bead mills have proved suitable as grinding equipment. Pigments and extenders are added to a small amount of the total Bayhydrol® content in the formulation. Deionised water is added to adjust the mixture to dispersion viscosity. Because of the good shear stability of the product, dispersion temperatures of up to 40 °C have no negative effect.Depending on the co-reactants used, coatings formulated with Bayhydrol® A 2058 can be dried for 45 min at 80 °C.The pot life of systems applied under standard conditions (23 °C, 60 ± 5 % relative humidity) is approx. 1 hour.

Solubility / thinnability
Bayhydrol® A 2058 can be thinned with water. It has only partial compatibility with glycol ethers and alcohols. Such solutions/mixtures must be checked for compatibility and storage stability.
Compatibility
In general, Bayhydrol® A 2058 can be combined with polyester-polyurethane dispersions.Suitable co-reactants include Desmodur® ultra N 3600 and Bayhydur® ultra 3100.If formulating one-component coats with melamine resins, the compatibility must be tested first.
Storage
- Storage in original sealed Covestro containers. - Recommended storage temperature: > 0 ≤ 30 °C. - Protect from frost, heat and foreign material. General information: The product is sensitive to frost. Prolonged freezing can damage the product irreversibly. Prolonged storage at higher temperatures may result in a decrease of viscosity and/or an increase of average particle size, possibly resulting in sedimentation or coagulation. Contamination with certain bacteria, fungi or algae may render the product unusable.
Storage time
Covestro represents that, for a period of six months following the day of shipment as stated in the respective transport documents, the product will meet the specifications or values set forth in section "specifications or characteristic data" above, what ever is applicable, provided that the product is stored in full compliance with the storage conditions set forth in and referenced under section "storage" above and is otherwise handled appropriately. The lapse of the six months period does not necessarily mean that the product no longer meets specifications or the set values. However, prior to using said product, Covestro recommends to test such a product if it still meets the specifications or the set values. Covestro does not make any representation regarding the product after the lapse of the six months period and Covestro shall not be responsible or liable in any way for the product failing to meet specifications or the set values after the lapse of the six months period.
Processing
Application and formulation equipment can be cleaned with water, alkaline cleaning agents or alkaline isopropanol.
