Caustic soda (NaOH)
Sodium hydroxide (NaOH), also known as caustic soda, is used in a range of applications such as in pulp & paper processing, in the production of soaps and detergents or in manufacturing components for electric vehicle (EV) batteries as well as in food processing.
Leveraging our advanced membrane-based chlorine electrolysis technology we produce and supply high-quality caustic soda (NaOH) in concentrations of 32% and 50%, (NaOH mass in the solution). Our product range includes technical grade as well as food additive (FA) grade NaOH, the latter can be consumed as food additive in various applications. As a sodium hydroxide supplier, we additionally offer RNE (Renewable Energy) grade caustic soda produced in our ISCC Plus-certified plants and manufactured using electricity sourced from renewable energy sources.
Our NaOH 50% produced at the Tarragona plant utilizes membrane technology enhanced with oxygen-depolarized cathode (ODC) technology, resulting in significantly reduced electricity consumption and improved environmental performance.
The raw material caustic soda is a key chemical compound, e.g. in:
- Technical chemistry: Soaps, detergents, water treatment, sodium compounds production
- Aluminum: Fused alumina production
- Pulp, paper: Soda and sulfate cellulose production
- Textiles: Viscose silk production
- Electric vehicles: LiOH and cathode active materials production
- Other applications: pH adjustment, alkalization, degreasing, pickling of metal surfaces
