Building Envelope & Energy Efficiency
Polyurethane insulation solutions from Covestro, based on our proven Mondur® and Arcol® chemistries, offer excellent thermal performance across the entire building envelope. Whether specified as rigid insulation boards, insulated metal panels (IMPs), or spray foam for complex geometries – our materials keep data center building envelopes, HVAC systems, and equipment rooms thermally optimized, ensuring that sensitive hardware stays cool and operations run at peak efficiency. Beyond thermal control, they provide effective sound insulation to minimize noise from high-density server operations.
Electrical Components & Fire Protection
In a data center, electrical reliability is not an option – it is everything. Makrolon® polycarbonate and Bayblend® PC blends offer flame resistance and durability that switches, outlets, housings, relays, and fan blades in critical IT infrastructure require, and help facilities meet stringent electrical safety standards without compromising weight or design flexibility. With sustainable options*, including recycled attributed material and bio-attributed** raw material grades, our materials support both the performance and decarbonization goals of forward-thinking data center construction.

Thermal Management
As data centers push the boundaries of computing power density, thermal management at the component level has never been more critical. Our thermally conductive polycarbonate Makrolon® TC offers a lightweight, high-performance alternative to traditional die-cast aluminum heat sinks — it efficiently absorbs and distributes heat away from sensitive power electronics while unlocking the design freedom of injection molding to reduce part complexity and consolidate components.
Gear Restriction & Safety
Makrolon® polycarbonate resins can be used to manufacture panels that are lightweight, impact-resistant, and optically transparent — ideal for aisle containment panels, doors, and viewing windows that prevent hot and cold air from mixing while enabling visual inspection of the facility without interrupting airflow. For additional safety, Dureflex® TPU film can be laminated directly onto polycarbonate panels, providing robust protection against severe impacts.
Reliability of Emergency Power Supply
Makrolon® polycarbonate and Bayblend® PC blends offer the high impact resistance, dimensional stability and UL 94 V0/5VA flame retardancy that battery backups, power supplies and transparent light guide components require under sustained thermal and electrical stress.
