Fast-curing 2K PU enables efficient pipe coating
Al Dhakira, a city in Qatar, is expanding enormously. This includes the development of a district of the city with new residential and commercial settlements covering 275,000 sqm. An important aspect of the infrastructure for this project was the building of a new 111 km long pipeline for sewage and treated sewage water in Al Dhakira.
A high-quality coating technology was requested that helped to expand the infrastructure quickly and reliably.
Ease of application and fast-curing properties were important requirements for the coating technology chosen for the project. Moreover, high mechanical resistance was crucial, given the long transit journeys to the site for the coated pipes.
The ease of application and the fast-curing properties at ambient temperature made polyurethane a perfect choice for this project.

Another important benefit of the polyurethane technology based on Desmodur® and Desmophen® was the optimum balance between flexibility and tensile strength. The aim was to deliver coated pipes in very good condition to the site about 500 km away from the factory. “We had very few cracks and damage during transportation and installation of the pipes, which significantly reduced the amount of repair work,” said Raed Roustom, General Manager of the contractor NassTech.
