An easy-to-handle, low-viscosity coating for flooring
Delivering durable, high-quality flooring without hassle or disruption
Coating a floor correctly is a must for architects and construction specialists. Well installed indoor and outdoor flooring is more than a functional necessity, it also provides a unique range of aesthetic and functional possibilities.
From a construction perspective, coating processes can present a logistical challenge. For instance, when coatings dry, floorspace is out of use, which can mean incurring costs, or even delaying downstream construction activities. Furthermore, many traditional coating systems can pose potential safety hazards, requiring handlers to take specialized training or obtain licenses that enable them to transport and apply these chemicals.
Given this, it is no surprise that easy-to-apply coating systems are becoming increasingly popular. At Covestro, we have pioneered a range of low-monomer, self-leveling, and partly bio-based coatings hardeners over recent years, and we are constantly refining these products.
Take the next step in floor-coating innovation with Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500
Responding to the difficulties that some customers and end-users encountered with the hardness of Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7300, we created Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500. With a solid content of 100% and NCO content of 18.5%, Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500 contains no intentionally added solvents.
Plus, like other products in the Covestro ultra range, Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500 contains a monomer content of less than 0.1% by weight, which means no additional handling or transportation licenses are required.
Crucially, Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500 has a viscosity of 1,700 mPa·s. This makes mixing and applying this formulation with manual techniques much easier compared to less viscous alternatives. If users want a harder or softer formulation of Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500, they can also customize softness with their preferred choice of polyol. And while elongation properties are largely impacted by polyols, Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500 offers a great balance between elongation, tensile strength, and hardness.
Laying the groundwork for more sustainable flooring
As a 68-70% bio-based coating, Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500 can help to significantly reduce the environmental impact of flooring coating systems compared to traditional alternatives. And because this product has no additional toxicity labeling, it is easy and safe to mix, pour, and set on-site in a range of construction environments.
Due to the low viscosity of Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500, construction workers also benefit from fast application times. This helps construction and applicator experts keep projects on track and create visually appealing professional flooring. Once dry, Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500 is softer than other coating resins in the same product range, which creates a much more comfortable walking experience.
Built to last, Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500 also offers strong impact resistance, which makes it a great coating for high-traffic floors—including parking spaces, hallways, and exterior walkways.
Key benefits
- 68-70% bio-based: Helps to reduce the carbon footprint and environmental impact of floor coatings.
- 1,700 mPa·s viscosity: Due to its low viscosity, Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500 is easy to apply manually.
- No extra labeling: <0.1% monomer content by weight, so no extra training or certification is needed.
- Long-term durability: Great impact resistance helps to protect floors from wear and damage.
