Decorative PU terrazzo flooring at the Covestro Campus in Leverkusen
The 1,800 square meter, attractive flooring of the atrium at the new campus building is a PU-bonded rubber granulate terrazzo floor. It was sealed with a water-based 2K PU coating, so that the terrazzo floor will continue to look attractive for many years to come.
The elastic and seamless overall system with the matching PU sealer creates a highly durable floor, and the sealer also ensures that it is extremely easy to clean – that saves time and money.
Durability is essential for attractive floor coatings in high-traffic areas. In addition, sustainability plays a key role when choosing the materials to be used. Richard Frische, Technical Project Manager at Covestro, underscores these aspects: “In addition to important space utilization requirements such as impact sound insulation, walking comfort and cleanability, the fulfillment of LEED Gold building certification is also worth highlighting”.
With technically proven raw materials from Covestro, we are able to manufacture low-emission, certified sealers that conform to many European standards.
It was these requirements that led to the choice for a PU-bonded rubber granulate terrazzo floor, sealed with a water-based 2K PU coating. This elastic flooring system developed by Swiss installation company TEXOLIT AG offers a wide range of advantages that made it an easy choice for the building owner.
Philipp Herzog, CEO of TEXOLIT, explains how it works: “The elastic and seamless overall system with the matching PU sealer creates a highly durable floor, and the sealer also ensures that it is extremely easy to clean – that saves time and money”.
Water-based polyurethane sealing is especially low in emissions, and is often the first choice for decorative coatings in indoor areas.
Artur Kehrle, CEO of KLB Kötztal, says “With technically proven raw materials from Covestro, we are able to manufacture low-emission, certified sealers that conform to many European standards”.
In addition to important space utilization requirements such as impact sound insulation, walking comfort and cleanability, the fulfillment of LEED Gold building certification is also worth highlighting.
