Product description
Self-crosslinking urethane acrylate dispersion. Self-crosslinking UV curing polyurethane dispersion that shows very fast water release and high chemical and mechanical resistance, even under mild UV curing conditions. Product can be used even without UV curing or reduced amount of photoinitiator.
Applications
Bayhydrol® CQ UV 2877 is used in the formulation of aqueous UV-curing coatings, especially for application on wood/wood materials.
Generally speaking, the coated surfaces can be sanded before UV curing. Additions of 0.5 - 2.5 % by wt. photoinitiator, calculated on the solid binder, have proved suitable for initiating the curing reaction. Product can be used without UV curing. After evaporation of the water, the coatings can be cured at a belt speed of up to 10 m/min per 80 W/cm Hg lamp. Ga-doped lamps and special photoinitiators are normally used in the curing of pigmented systems. To ensure optimum curing, it is important that the film contains no water and that thermal pre-drying has taken place.
Combination with Bayhydur® allows the formulation of aqueous dual-cure systems.
Form supplied
Dispersion in water with a non-volatile content of approx. 37 %.

Principal properties
Self-crosslinking UV curing polyurethane dispersion that shows very fast water release and high chemical and mechanical resistance, even under mild UV curing conditions.
Depending on the formulation, the paint films are physically dry and sandable after evaporation of water, with medium chemical and mechanical resistance.
Product can be used even without UV curing or reduced amount of photoinitiator.
Solubility / thinnability
Bayhydrol® CQ UV 2877 can be thinned with water.
Compatibility
Bayhydrol® CQ UV 2877 has very good compatibility with many dispersions, including UV-curing products. After adjusting the pH to > 6.7, the compatibility should always be tested.
The viscosity is adjusted by adding polyurethane thickeners.
Matting agents and additives can be dispersed directly in the product using a dissolver. Bayhydrol® CQ UV 2877 is easily matted using standard matting agents. As a rule, the coatings should be colored using aqueous pigment pastes.
The product has limited compatibility with allyl polyester emulsions. No problems are experienced with the use of solvents which usually should only be necessary as additives.
Storage
- Storage in original sealed Covestro container.
- Recommended storage temperature: {{storageTemperature}}.
- Protect from direct sunlight, frost, heat and foreign material.
General information: The product is sensitive to frost. Freezing can damage the product irreversibly. Prolonged storage at higher temperatures may affect the product properties. Containers must be kept sealed and protected from direct sunlight as otherwise the evaporation of water will result in the formation of a non-redispersible polymer film.
Storage time
Covestro certifies that the product meets specifications for 3 months from the date of shipment, provided it is stored and handled in accordance with the conditions specified in the ‘Storage’ section. After this period, product performance is not assured; Customers are responsible for retesting material before use. Covestro assumes no liability for product performance after 3 months.
