Out of the box: Material solutions for interiors
To help customers find material solutions that check all of the boxes, we offer an interactive, hands-on tool that packages our polycarbonate blends created using either a standard or tempered molding process. This handy toolbox also features three of our new surface designs – fine grain, leather grain and laser grain – which were developed alongside Krüth, one of Germany’s leading grain manufacturers.
All samples are shown in one consistent black color, so automotive designers and manufacturers can easily compare and select materials by using different mold designs and technologies. Because gloss level is an important consideration for interior styling, we also demonstrate the influence of gloss behavior as a function of the grain, material and molding conditions used.
We have several samples of our Bayblend® and Makroblend® polycarbonate blends, which feature a varying degree of key properties, including impact strength, heat resistance, flowability, interior light stability, surface reproduction (low gloss), high gloss level, deep brilliant colors, and chemical and scratch resistance. Whether you’re looking for materials that offer low gloss, medium heat, high heat or special properties, we have a variety of grades that can meet your needs.
Here’s a snapshot of how these materials fit the bill for interior applications:
- Bayblend® PC+ABS blends: These materials meet heat requirements while offering high scratch resistance, a low level of volatile organic compounds (VOC) emissions, superior dimensional accuracy and high creep resistance. Applications include air vent frames and housings, overhead compartments, head rests and sunglass boxes. These grades are also used for secondary finishing processes leading to multiple decorated high-quality interior trim parts.
- Bayblend® PC+ASA blends: These high-heat grades meet demanding UV-stability requirements while offering customized interior colors for head rests, loudspeaker grills, overhead compartments, sunglass boxes and bezels.
- Makroblend® PC+PBT blends: Featuring superior sun lotion and scratch resistance, these grades are used in bezels, frames, trim parts, center stacks, gear shift bezels, steering column covers and seat belt pillar covers.
