Shift brilliance: Light Design = new chrome in car interiors
The injection molding of several interconnected IP trim parts, some of which are sizeable and span seamlessly btw door panels to encompass the entire dashboard.
The primary objective is to achieve a visually stunning interior light enhanced trim system that transforms the in-cabin experience.
One key goal is to ensure the homogeneous distribution of light throughout interconnected IP trim parts.
The interior of the Tiguan features a completely new concept and design. It stands out with its high standards of material and workmanship. In addition, the new cockpit landscape is intuitive to use, closely integrated, and has a clean and smart design
This challenge involves injection molding a large automotive part using two-cavity In-Mold Decoration (IMD) equipment. It requires precision to meet tight tolerances, ensure dimensional accuracy, achieve balanced ambient light dispersion, make lighting energy-efficient and sustainable, and create a vibrant appearance day and night. The goal is to convince VW to adopt Makrolon® Ai diffusion-grade material, demonstrating its global potential across multiple car models.
The choice of high-purity optical Makrolon Ai plus color is absolutely paramount. Not only to shape aesthetics but also to influence the overall perception of quality and innovation. The ability to achieve a high-quality look and feel in ambient light trim elements is a defining factor in setting EVs apart from the crowd.
Our solution uses Makrolon® Ai, a diffusion polycarbonate known for high purity, concealing LED hotspots while meeting mechanical standards. It ensures smooth light distribution, ideal for automotive interiors, with excellent mold flow, thin-wall design fit, and optimal light transmission. We supported VW in grade selection, color matching, and molding trials, boosting manufacturing efficiency and quality. This collaboration reflects our commitment to tailored solutions that meet industry needs.
We are excited about the successful collaboration with VW Group Components, committed to continue our partnership exploring further developments and thus create value for the world of High Performance Polycarbonate.
