A Desmodur® ultra success story: New crosslinkers for polyurethane coatings
Improving industrial hygiene standards is important for the entire coatings industry. Especially in automotive refinish coatings where painters do manual spraying jobs every day, any step to improve occupational hygiene would benefit thousands. The whole paint value chain from the raw material supplier and paint manufacturer to the bodyshop applicator wants materials and applications that keep pace with increasingly strict safety standards.
As automotive refinish coating is the biggest single application for BESA, it is very important for them to prepare early for the proposed EU legislation to restrict the use of diisocyanates, and in this way pioneer safer automotive refinish paints.
“We are also taking the cooperation with Covestro as the opportunity for us to be well positioned as the market pioneer. We are looking forward to fulfilling the growing market need for improved industrial hygiene, especially in the automotive refinish coatings industry.”
Using the new Desmodur® ultra product line, BESA now offers a coating system with less residual monomer that is aligned with the proposed legislation. As Desmodur® ultra delivers the same high performance as the former standard grade, BESA’s paint systems can be used in just the same way its customers have been used to.
“By using crosslinkers from the new Covestro ultra line of products, we can now offer solutions with improved industrial hygiene for our customers’ well-being and the environment.”
