Car-to-Car Recycled Plastics | RV Series
Meet EU ELVR Quotas with Automotive Recyclates
The EU End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation (ELVR) mandates 15% recycled plastics in new vehicles by 2032 (25% by 2036), with a strict 20% Car-to-Car closed-loop requirement (3% by 2032; 5% by 2036). Makrolon® RV and Bayblend® RV are purpose-built to meet this mandate. As automotive-grade with PCR material share, they provide OEMs with a solution to fulfill Car-to-Car obligations on schedule - without compromising manufacturing standards.
Circular economy is one of the key aspects of Volkswagen Group’s sustainability approach. Through Covestro’s RV series, we are exploring the potential of OEM-validated car-to-car recyclates to help keep valuable resources in use for longer.
Driving Circular Mobility with High-Performance Car-to-Car Recyclates
The RV series "Recyclate from Vehicles", complement our R series, setting a benchmark for post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics in the automotive sector. Featuring up to 50% certified Car-to-Car feedstock, Makrolon® RV and Bayblend® RV deliver mechanical properties, impact resistance, and thermal performance close to virgin grades. This enables OEMs and Tiers to integrate high-performance recycled automotive polymers into various demanding interior and exterior applications, without design or quality compromise.
Established Supply of Recyclates from Automotive Headlamps
Quality starts at the source. Makrolon® RV and Bayblend® RV grades are partially mechanically recycled exclusively from transparent polycarbonate automotive headlamps. Our industrially scaled supply chain provides OEMs and Tiers with long-term reliability for series production.
Design Freedom with Advanced Colorability for Circular Automotive Plastics
Circular does not mean compromising design. Makrolon® RV and Bayblend® RV go beyond standard black and dark grey - expanding colorability for mechanically recycled automotive plastics into medium-to-light greys and high-chroma opaque colors. This advanced color flexibility gives automotive designers further freedom across interior and exterior components. Validated with OEMs at joint projects, these grades prove that our circular materials are fully ready for series production.
At NIO, we believe that true sustainability means keeping materials in motion. Our partnership with Covestro enables a certified, closed-loop recycling ecosystem in China – converting end-of-life automotive parts back into high-performance materials for our next-generation EVs. With Makrolon® RV, we explore full circularity without compromising on quality, safety, or design freedom.
Building Closed-Loop Ecosystems for Circular Mobility
Covestro is building closed-loop* recycling ecosystems across Europe and Asia. Leveraging our proven and established circular network and know-how in China, we are driving the establishment of local closed-loop mobility ecosystems across Europe - engaging recyclers, dismantlers, and automotive OEMs to overcome circularity challenges together.
