Product description
On account of the chemical composition of the product, good weather stability can be expected. However, it is generally advisable to add light stabilisers (e.g. Tinuvin® 292 and 1130), especially when formulating clear coats for exterior automotive applications. Combinations with Desmodur® N/ultra N products display good resistance in the standard accelerated tests, e.g. 2,000 h QUV resistance of clear coat on metallic base coat.
Applications
Desmophen® VP LS 2388 is used primarily in combination with Desmodur® N 75 and Desmodur® ultra N 3390 in the formulation of fast-drying, high-solids, two-component polyurethane coatings characterised by good lightfastness and weather stability, high film elasticity and good tar resistance. Of particular note is the better QUV performance and tar resistance compared with a Desmodur® N, ultra N / Desmophen® 670 combination. The film elasticity values are comparable with those yielded by Desmophen® 670.

Solubility / thinnability
Desmophen® VP LS 2388 is soluble in ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, 1-methoxypropylacetate-2, xylene and mixtures of these solvents. However, the storage stability of the respective solutions must be tested.Only PU grade solvents (< 0.05 % water, free of other reactive impurities) should be used.
Compatibility
Desmophen® VP LS 2388 is compatible with a number of polyester Desmophen® products. Suitable crosslinkers are the Desmodur® products N 75, ultra N 3390, N 3600 and N 3800. Compatibility with other grades i.e. Acrylic resins has to be tested.
Storage
- Storage in original sealed Covestro container. - Recommended storage temperature: 0 - 30 °C. - Protect from moisture, heat and foreign material. General information:The product is somewhat hygroscopic. The product is sensitive to moisture. Storage at higher temperatures will result in increase of color and viscosity.
Storage time
Covestro represents that, for a period of six months following the day of shipment as stated in the respective transport documents, the product will meet the specifications or values set forth in section "specifications or characteristic data" above, what ever is applicable, provided that the product is stored in full compliance with the storage conditions set forth in and referenced under section "storage" above and is otherwise handled appropriately.The lapse of the six months period does not necessarily mean that the product no longer meets specifications or the set values. However, prior to using said product, Covestro recommends to test such a product if it still meets the specifications or the set values. Covestro does not make any representation regarding the product after the lapse of the six months period and Covestro shall not be responsible or liable in any way for the product failing to meet specifications or the set values after the lapse of the six months period.
