Task

Shaping the Future: Merging Sustainability and Performance

The goal was to create an EV charging solution using sustainable, high-performance materials. The focus was on developing a durable, more sustainable wallbox that adheres to high-quality standards while supporting the transition to circular economy practices in energy infrastructure.

Challenge

The Material Quest: Sustainability, Design and Performance

CUBOS required materials that combined durability, sustainability, and cost-efficiency for its modular wallbox design. The challenge was sourcing materials that upheld its ecological values without compromising functionality, manufacturability, or long-term product viability.

Our RE-compounds, with attributed ISCC PLUS certified renewable raw materials, offer high-quality, durability and broad design opportunities. The RE product series is part of Covestro’s CQ portfolio of circular intelligent solutions.

According to CUBOS, their wallbox C44E features a sustainable and modular design, meets the highest safety standards and earned the 2024 Red Dot Design Award.

As a material manufacturer, we are actively working to become climate-neutral and shift our raw material base from fossil to circular materials. But without partners who can take our products and prepare and create the market for them, we cannot close the loop of the circular economy.

RE Material Solutions Help Lower the Carbon Footprint

Bayblend® RE of Covestro was selected as the material of choice for the housing components, offering the required durability and design flexibility for EV charging applications.

The chosen RE compound maintains its proven material properties including excellent flow and good low temperature impact strength, while incorporating mass-balanced renewable raw materials in its production process.

The material's processing characteristics enable engineers to create precise designs and modular components.

The material provides high-performance properties and lowers environmental impact.

Its reduced carbon footprint supports CUBOS’ ecological goals and the circular economy ambitions of Covestro.
