Product description
Non-reactive linear polyurethane based on MDI. Binder for physically drying primers and finishes for plastics.
Applications
Desmolac® 2100 is used primarily as a physically drying binder for primers in finishing plastics. The product is also used for finishes for flexible substrates. The finishes formulated with Desmolac® 2100 are glossy and pleasant to handle. However, they are not lightfast although this generally represents no problem if the coating or substrate is dark-coloured.The pigment wetting of Desmolac® 2100 is good. The solvent resistance of films based on Desmolac® 2100 can be greatly improved by the addition of a polyisocyanate, preferably Desmodur® N 75 (10 - 20 %, calculated on Desmolac® 2100). This will result in post-crosslinking of the film with atmospheric moisture after 1 - 2 weeks.

Solubility / thinnability
Desmolac® 2100 has good solubility in ether esters such as methoxypropylacetate and ketones such as methyl ethyl ketone. It has partial solubility in esters. The product does not dissolve in aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons. When using ether ersters and ketones, however, small amounts of aromatic hydrocarbons can be used as diluents. Generally speaking, the product has good compatibility with the solvents listed. However, the solutions formed must be tested for their storage stability.
Compatibility
Generally speaking, Desmolac® 2100 can be mixed with the following products: aliphatic polyisocyanates such as Desmodur® N 100, N 75, ultra N 3300 and N 3390; aromatic polyisocyanates such as Desmodur® L/ultra L, HL and IL/ultra IL; low-viscosity nitrocelluloses and vinyl copolymers. However, the compatibility of the combinations used should always be tested.Desmolac® 2100 is not compatible with polyvinyl butyral, cellulose acetobutyrate or cellulose propionate.
Storage
- Storage in original sealed Covestro container. - Recommended storage temperature: max. 25 °C. - Protect from direct sunlight, moisture, heat and foreign material. General information: At higher temperatures, the granules may bake together. The viscosity of the product (measured as a 30 % solution in methyl ethyl ketone) may increase during storage.
Storage time
Covestro represents that, for a period of six months following the day of shipment as stated in the respective transport documents, the product will meet the specifications or values set forth in section "specifications or characteristic data" above, what ever is applicable, provided that the product is stored in full compliance with the storage conditions set forth in and referenced under section "storage" above and is otherwise handled appropriately. The lapse of the six months period does not necessarily mean that the product no longer meets specifications or the set values.
