Desmodur® PF is a modified diphenyl-methane-4,4'-diisocyanate (MDI).Desmodur® PF is a modified diisocyanate that is liquid at room temperature and is suitable for combination with Baycoll®, Desmophen® and Acclaim® in the formulation of adhesives.
Product description
Applications
Desmodur® PF can be combined with Desmophen®, Baycoll® or Acclaim® in the formulation of adhesives for bonding many materials, e.g. wood, metal and plastics. Desmodur® PF is particularly suitable for combining with Baycoll® in the formulation of reactive two-component adhesives and moisture-curing one-component adhesives. On account of the vapour pressure of MDI, especially at elevated temperatures, adhesives with free isocyanate groups can only be handled in work areas with adequate extraction.
Form supplied
Solvent-free, colourless to yellowish liquid of medium viscosity at temperatures above 20 °C that crystallises at lower temperatures.

Storage
- Storage in original sealed Covestro container. - Recommended storage temperature: 20 - 25 °C. - Protect from moisture, heat and foreign material. General information: The product is sensitive to moisture and should therefore be stored in its sealed original containers. Prolonged storage at temperatures above 25 °C results in a deterioration in quality as the product becomes increasingly turbid owing to the formation of a sediment (dimers) that is not readily soluble. For example, storage stability at 40 °C is limited to a maximum of 4 months. Storage at too low temperature results in crystallisation which starts at temperatures below 20 °C.To prevent crystallisation, it must be ensured that the product does not cool to below 20 °C. The product should be checked for crystallisation on delivery. If crystallisation has occurred during transportation, the prodcut should be returned immediately.
Storage time
Covestro represents that, for a period of six months following the day of shipment as stated in the respective transport documents, the product will meet the specifications or values set forth in section "specifications or characteristic data" above, what ever is applicable, provided that the product is stored in full compliance with the storage conditions set forth in and referenced under section "storage" above and is otherwise handled appropriately. The lapse of the six months period does not necessarily mean that the product no longer meets specifications or the set values. However, prior to using said product, Covestro recommends to test such a product if it still meets the specifications or the set values. Covestro does not make any representation regarding the product after the lapse of the six months period and Covestro shall not be responsible or liable in any way for the product failing to meet specifications or the set values after the lapse of the six months period.
Processing
It must be ensured that the containers - including those that are empty - are kept sealed. Above all, contact with water must be prevented as it reacts with Desmodur® PF to form polyureas and carbon dioxide. During storage, sample withdrawal, transfer and processing of Desmodur® PF, the ingress of water in any form (damp containers, anhydrous solvents, moist air) must be prevented as otherwise the formation of carbon dioxide may cause a dangerous increase in pressure in the tanks and containers. Furthermore, the formation of polyureas in Desmodur® PF may cause turbidity and possibly solid deposits which may then block filters, pumps and pipelines.
Health and Safety Information
Before working with this product, you must read and become familiar with the available information on its risks, proper use, and handling. Information is available in several forms, e.g., in particular in the currently valid safety data sheets and product labels. For further information contact your Covestro representative.
