Product description
Blocked aliphatic polyisocyanate based on H12MDI.In combination with hydroxyl-bearing polyols, especially Desmophen® grades, to formulate lightfast one-component polyurethane stoving coatings; as an additive in conventional stoving systems to improve adhesion and flexibility.
Applications
Desmodur® BL 5375 was developed as a hardener component for lightfast one-compnent stoving polyurethane systems. As with air-drying two-component PU coatings, the film properties can be influenced by the crosslinking density and the selection of hydroxyl-bearing polyol co-reactant.Desmodur® BL 5375 can be used to formulate high-quality industrial finishes, especially for coil and can coating. The product can also be used as an additive to improve flexibility, tear resistance and adhesion of conventional stoving coil and can coating systems. The combination of Desmodur® BL 5375 with Desmophen® 670 results in particularly high flexibility. Such a formulation is suitable for tear resistance coatings flexible substrates and those vulnerable to impact.Available results form Florida weathering tests show that Desmodur® BL 5375 has good weather stability comparable with that of Desmodur® BL 3175. Depending on the polyol used, crosslinking may start at approx. 160 °C. The stoving temperature can be reduced considerably by the addition of a catalyst, e.g. 0.3 to 1 % dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTL). The following stoving cycles can be used, e.g. for combinations with Desmophen® T 1665 in an equivalent crosslinking ratio:with-out catalyst with catalystwith 0.3 % DBTL (on binder solids) Under coil coating conditions, adequate crosslinking of Desmodur® BL 5375 without catalyst is achieved form approx. 241 °C peak metal temperature (PMT) and with the additional of 0.3 % DBTL from approx. 224 °C PMT.

Solubility / thinnability
Desmodur® BL 5375 can be thinned to a clear solution with a solids content of 40 % by weight with esters, ketones, ether esters and aromatics, including the higher boiling aromatic mixtures solvent naphtha® 100, 150 and 200 S.Aliphatic hydrocarbons are of only limited suitability as diluents. The solutions formed must be tested for their compatibility and storage stability.
Compatibility
Given equivalent crosslinking, Desmodur® BL 5375 is usually compatible with Desmophen® 651, 670, 680, 690, 800, 1100, 1300, RD 181, A 160, A 365, A 450 and A 665, with Desmophen® T 1665 and T 1775 and with Alkydal® F 300, F 310. The combinations should always be tested for their compatibility.
Storage
- Storage in original sealed Covestro container. - Recommended storage temperature: 0 - 30 °C. - Protect from moisture, heat and foreign material. General information: Storage at higher temperatures will result in increase of color and viscosity. Storage at significant lower temperatures will result in solidification. This solidification is reversible by briefly heating the product without adversely affecting the quality of the product. Should the product become turbid, this can be reversed by heating.
Storage time
Covestro represents that, for a period of nine months following the day of shipment as stated in the respective transport documents, the product will meet the specifications or values set forth in section "specifications or characteristic data" above, what ever is applicable, provided that the product is stored in full compliance with the storage conditions set forth in and referenced under section "storage" above and is otherwise handled appropriately. The lapse of the nine months period does not necessarily mean that the product no longer meets specifications or the set values. However, prior to using said product, Covestro recommends to test such a product if it still meets the specifications or the set values. Covestro does not make any representation regarding the product after the lapse of the nine months period and Covestro shall not be responsible or liable in any way for the product failing to meet specifications or the set values after the lapse of the nine months period.
