Product description
Blocked aromatic polyisocyanate based on TDI.In combination with cycloaliphatic diamines such as Laromin® C 260 (BASF) to formulate highly flexible, one-component stoving coatings.
Applications
Desmodur® BL 1100/1 is combined with Laromin® C 260 to formulate stoving coatings, including those for application by dipping and curtain coating, and adhesive cements. Combinations of Desmodur® BL 1100/1 and Laromin® C 260 with plasticisers can also be used as high-build coatings. Optimum film properties are produced by combining Desmodur® BL 1100/1 and Laromin® C 260 in the ratio 100 : 10 (by wt.). The mixing ratio was determined empirically. The films are rubber-like and have good mechanical properties.Stoving conditions: Longer stoving times at 180 °C and stoving temperatures above 190 °C will decrease the mechanical strength of the films.A special application is in stone-chip primer surfacers for the automotive industry. The film hardness and low-temperature crack resistance of Desmodur® BL 1100/1 / Laromin® C 260 combinations can be increased by the addition of Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X. The amount of Laromin® C 260 required to yield optimum film properties when combined with Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X has been determined empirically: Combinations of Desmodur® BL 1100/1 and Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X are cloudy and do not always have unlimited compatibility. Nevertheless, after stoving for 30 min at 160 °C, virtually clear films are obtained. Clear and pigmented one-component systems can be formulated using Desmodur® BL 1100/1 and Laromin® C 260. These are stable at room temperature and at 40 °C. When formulating pigmented systems using standard equipment, care should be taken that the temperature does not exceed 70 °C. Storage stability is limited at temperatures above 80 °C, even if exposure is brief.

Solubility / thinnability
Generally speaking, Desmodur® BL 1100/1 has good compatibility with the solvents listed. However, the solutions formed must be tested for their storage stability. Desmodur® BL 1100/1 is readily soluble in ethers, alcohols, esters and aromatic hydrocarbons. It has limited solubility in aliphatic hydrocarbons. Only PU grade solvents should be used (< 0.05 % water). The solvent should not contain reactive groups such as hydroxyl or amino groups.
Compatibility
Generally speaking, Desmodur® BL 1100/1 is miscible with various plasticisers such as Unimoll® BB, Adimoll® DO and Disflamoll® TOF. The combinations should always be tested for their compatibility.
Storage
- Storage in original sealed Covestro container. - Recommended storage temperature: 0 - 30 °C. - Protect from moisture, heat and foreign material. General information: Storage at higher temperatures will result in increase of color and viscosity. Storage at significant lower temperatures will result in solidification. This solidification is reversible by briefly heating the product without adversely affecting the quality of the product.
Storage time
Covestro represents that, for a period of nine months following the day of shipment as stated in the respective transport documents, the product will meet the specifications or values set forth in section "specifications or characteristic data" above, what ever is applicable, provided that the product is stored in full compliance with the storage conditions set forth in and referenced under section "storage" above and is otherwise handled appropriately. The lapse of the nine months period does not necessarily mean that the product no longer meets specifications or the set values. However, prior to using said product, Covestro recommends to test such a product if it still meets the specifications or the set values. Covestro does not make any representation regarding the product after the lapse of the nine months period and Covestro shall not be responsible or liable in any way for the product failing to meet specifications or the set values after the lapse of the nine months period.
