Jabra Teamed Up with Covestro to Give its Headsets a Boost in Sustainability
Jabra is a world leading brand in audio, video and collaboration solutions – engineered to empower consumers and businesses. As part of GN Group and led by the sustainability target of its parent company, Jabra wanted to explore more sustainable materials for the first time in its Evolve2 mid-range headset series. Engineered for ultra-flexible hybrid working environment, the Evolve2 series prioritizes quality, flexibility, and comfort to improve working conditions and productivity. Therefore the more sustainable materials that Jabra was seeking not only need to enjoy lower carbon footprint, but also improve user experience, enabling people to become more efficient at work and enjoy entertainment.
Jabra sought high-quality, sustainable materials for headsets. When it came to the ear cushion plastics, they needed to offer comfort on the one hand, and on the other hand strong chemical resistance to guarantee performance and durability given headsets’ direct contact with skin oils and cosmetics.
Moreover, materials had to be tough for portability and to resist the wear and tear associated with frequent travel.
With headsets becoming fashion essentials, Jabra sought customizable ear cushion materials for diverse colors and high-end designs.
In partnership with Covestro, Jabra introduced post-consumer recycled polycarbonate solutions into their new products. Bayblend® FR3010 R75 was adopted in ear cushion for Evolve2 65 Flex, Evolve2 55, and Evolve2 50 headsets.
With up to 75% recycled content, the material cuts carbon emissions by 50% compared to virgin grade, advancing Jabra’s sustainability and carbon reduction goals.
Bayblend® FR3010 R75 also excels in chemical resistance and extends product lifespan by enduring oils, sunscreens, perfumes, and cosmetics as well as withstanding impacts and stains.
Additionally, it offers excellent color-matching and a diverse design range without extra coatings, thereby meeting environmental standards.
We are excited to collaborate with Jabra and jointly work towards achieving sustainability goals. With our extensive material expertise and innovative technology, Covestro will continue to introduce more low-carbon solutions in the audio and wearable industries, and advance their circular economy goals.
