Baysafe® has a positive impact on passive safety systems
Baysafe® polyurethane (PU) foam serves a variety of safety-relevant applications in vehicles due to its reliability and chemical versatility, ranging from passive safety systems for passenger protection to reducing the risk of "thermal runaway" in high-voltage batteries.
Vehicle safety has a high and continuously increasing importance for OEMs, driven by legal requirements and consumer confidence as a decisive factor in purchasing decisions. With the introduction of battery electric vehicles, new safety-critical requirements are added.
Baysafe® was specifically developed for safety-relevant applications in vehicles. Covestro offers its customers a application-specific portfolio, consisting of:
- Baysafe® EA Polyurethane rigid foam for shock-absorbing safety components in the interior, exterior, and high-voltage battery. This energy-absorbing PU foam is used by OEMs and TIERs for impact protection and passive safety systems.
- Baysafe® BEF Polyurethane potting system for foaming high-voltage batteries in electric vehicles. This customized PU foam system enables battery manufacturers to achieve safety requirements for high-voltage batteries through effective encapsulation of battery cells.
