Famostar Sets New Standards in Sustainable Lighting Technology
Famostar leads the way in more sustainable emergency lighting by embedding circularity into product design. After the successful Famostar Nightlife pilot with Makrolon® RE, all polycarbonate housings are now produced from bio-circular polycarbonate according to Famostar. Switching from fossil based to ISCC PLUS certified Makrolon® RE reduces the plastic CO₂ footprint by over 80%.
Famostar impresses with their sustainability focus and entrepreneurial thinking, which aligns well with our shared vision of the circular economy. We are pleased to be able to contribute to their transition to more sustainable polycarbonate housings.
The challenge for the O-Lux was to develop a fully functional designer luminaire that combines reliable emergency lighting with strong aesthetic appeal and a low carbon footprint. The Nightlife pilot project already proved: bio-circular attributed Makrolon® RE drives customer demand and creates differentiation. This project required sustainable materials with excellent diffusion properties for a future-proof luminaire.
Makrolon® RE is a drop-in solution that accelerated our sustainability transition without compromising quality. In fact, this bio-circular attributed polycarbonate became our USP - customers choose Famostar for this differentiation. All our polycarbonate housings now use this material exclusively.
The O-Lux represents Famostar's answer: a fully integrated oval luminaire redefining emergency lighting. According to Famostar, its patented technology combines general and emergency lighting, glare protection, flexible mounting, and an 8-year battery warranty. Covestro supported Famostar in selecting Makrolon® RE in diffuser quality, enabling exceptional light diffusion and high lumens per watt efficiency while reducing the carbon footprint.
