Sonnenwagen Æthon incorporates a wide range of Covestro materials, including chemically recycled polyurethane foam and mechanically recyclable breathable TPU cushioning for the driver’s seat, mass-balanced Vulkollan® elastomers for shock damping, and impact-resistant polycarbonate for lighting. Partially bio-based PU coated textiles for grip and a room-temperature-curing coating contribute to the vehicle’s performance. In addition, more sustainable polycarbonate supports heat management in LED systems.

Corporate partnerships at Covestro turn circularity from a materials choice into a system change. We co-design products along design for circularity principles (e.g., design for disassembly and -recycling, mono-materials, drop-in recyclate grades), secure certified circular feedstocks at scale (ISCC+ mass-balance, bio-attributed, chemically recycled), and develop mechanical/chemical recycling technologies to close loops. Transparency on life cycle and carbon data, the development of digital material passports, and joint qualification enable like-for-like substitutions without performance or compliance surprises.
