Product description
Blocked aromatic polyisocyanate based on TDI.In combination with polyol components or polyamines to formulate one-component stoving coatings.
Applications
When used as the crosslinking component for polyols, Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X yields coatings with high levels of hardness and good resistance to deformation, impact and chemicals. Applications include coatings for the inside of tubes, can coatings and stone-chip primer surfacers. It can be used in top coats if only low levels of weather stability are required. When used as an additive, Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X improves the flexibility and resistance to abrasion, impact and/or chemicals of a coatings, for example, coil coating primers, primers for industrial finishes and stone-chip primer surfacers. A special application is the use of Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X in automotive stone-chip primer surfacers based on Desmodur® BL 1100/1 and Laromin C 260. Additions of 10 - 40 % (BL 1265/1 : BL 1100/1, calculated on solids) increase film hardness and low-temperature crack resistance. Equivalent mixtures (NCO/OH = 1.0) of Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X with Desmophen® grades yield optimum paint films. The amount of Laromin® C 260 required for crosslinking has been determined empirically. The optimum is approx. 13 % by wt., calculated on Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X. One-component systems based on Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X (with Desmophen® or Laromin® C 260) are stable at room temperature and at 40 °C. Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X combinations with pigments, extenders and additives can be formulated using standard equipment. The temperature during dispersion should not exceed 70 °C. Storage stability is limited at temperatures above 80 °C, even if exposure is brief. The crosslinking temperature depends on the stoving time and the co-reactant used. Stoving conditions range from approx. 30 min at 150 °C to those used in coil coating.

Solubility / thinnability
Generally speaking, Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X has good compatibility with the solvents listed. However, the solutions formed must be tested for their storage stability. Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X is readily soluble in ethers, esters, ketones, aromatic hydrocarbons and turpentine oil. It has limited thinnability with aliphatic hydrocarbons. Only PU grade solvents should be used (< 0.05 % water). The solvents should not contain reactive groups such as hydroxyl or amino groups.
Compatibility
Given equivalent crosslinking (NCO/OH = 1.0), Desmodur® BL 1265/1 MPA/X is generally miscible with Desmophen® 650, 651, 670, 680, 690, 800, 850, 1100, 1150, 1200, 1300, RD 181, A 365 and 1380 BT. It can also be combined with various plasticizers and epoxy resins such as Laromin® C 260 (BASF). The combinations should always be tested for their compatibility. Combinations with Desmodur® BL 1100/1 are cloudy and do not always have unlimited compatibility.
Storage
- Storage in original sealed Covestro container. - Recommended storage temperature: 0 - 30 °C. - Protect from moisture, heat and foreign material. General information: Storage at higher temperatures will result in increase of color and viscosity. Storage at significant lower temperatures will result in solidification. This solidification is reversible by briefly heating the product without adversely affecting the quality of the product.
Storage time
Covestro represents that, for a period of six months following the day of shipment as stated in the respective transport documents, the product will meet the specifications or values set forth in section "specifications or characteristic data" above, what ever is applicable, provided that the product is stored in full compliance with the storage conditions set forth in and referenced under section "storage" above and is otherwise handled appropriately. The lapse of the six months period does not necessarily mean that the product no longer meets specifications or the set values. However, prior to using said product, Covestro recommends to test such a product if it still meets the specifications or the set values. Covestro does not make any representation regarding the product after the lapse of the six months period and Covestro shall not be responsible or liable in any way for the product failing to meet specifications or the set values after the lapse of the six months period.
