Product description
Applications
Isocyanate component for two-component polyurethane resin for vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM).Desmodur 44CP23 in combination with Baydur® 120V2 is intended for the production of fiber-reinforced composites. For more details on processing please refer to the technical datasheet of the polyol component Baydur 120V2.The polyurethane resin has a very low viscosity and a long pot life at ambient temperature and a fast cure at elevated temperature.
Sampling
Moisture access should be prevented.
Specification
Property | Test Condition | Value | Unit | Standard |
---|---|---|---|---|
Density at 25 °C | approx. 1,23 | g/ml | calculated | |
Viscosity at 25 °C | 150 to 230 | mPa*s | DIN EN ISO 3219/A.3 | |
NCO-content | 29,5 to 31,8 | % | DIN EN ISO 11909 |
Storage
Drums should be protected against strong sunlight and always kept sealed to protect the contents from moisture or damp air. Keep the container tightly closed in a well-ventilated place. Recommended storage and transport temperature: 10 - 30 °CShelf life (ex works): 180 days if stored in sealed, moisture-tight containers
Processing
Desmodur 44CP23 may undergo partial crystallization at temperatures below 10 °C. The product can, however, be brought back to the liquid state by allowing the entire contents of the drum to slowly reach 30 °C. Avoid applying heat, hot objects or use of steam to heat the drum. At temperatures below 0 °C formation of dimers may occur. These dimers cannot be melted and will lead to increased viscosity.Storage for long periods of time at temperatures above 30 °C leads to a deterioration in quality and deviant cure. Drums including empty ones should always be kept tightly sealed. The product should never be allowed to come into contact with water, which reacts with Desmodur 44CP23 to form polyureas and carbon dioxide. Contact with water in any form (damp drums, solvents containing water, moist air) must be prevented not only during storage, but also when removing material from drums and during processing. Failure to do so may lead to a dangerous build up of pressure in tanks and drums due to the generation of carbon dioxide. In addition, polyureas forming in Desmodur 44CP23 can cause solids to separate out, leading to blockages in the filters, pumps and pipelines of the processing equipment and resulting in production problems.
