Makrolon® RE Revolutionizes Vimar's Linea products
Vimar, one of the leading Italian players on the low-voltage electronic and electrical scene, known for its commitment to innovation, design, and sustainability, aimed to enhance its Linea series by integrating renewable materials without compromising on quality or design. The challenge was to find a material that not only met stringent environmental standards but also harmonizes with Vimar's commitment to innovation and excellence.
The switches and sockets industry faces increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices and more sustainable material solutions, including a reduced carbon footprints in their final product series. Vimar's challenge lay in identifying a more sustainable material that could not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also maintain the high standards of performance, aesthetics, and durability expected by its customers.
In response to these increased requirements, Covestro proposed Makrolon® RE – a direct drop-in solution that supports optimizing innovative production processes of the Linea products with a reduced environmental impact along with FSC-certified green packaging reduces the equivalent CO2 by more than 80%. This corresponds to approximately 500 tonnes per annum, figures evaluated via the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach. What’s more, 97% of parts produced contain ISCC PLUS certified more sustainable plastic.
Through the use of Makrolon® RE we have achieved a milestone in terms of sustainability, while upholding the rigorous standards of performance, aesthetics, and durability. Since the beginning, Covestro has been an important partner, providing cutting-edge solutions and sharing its expertise.
By leveraging Covestro's Makrolon® RE, Vimar demonstrates how carbon emissions can be effectively reduced in the switches and sockets industry.
The Linea series stands as a beacon of more sustainable solutions, inspiring industry peers to prioritize environmental responsibility without compromising on quality or design.
Through optimized production volumes and reduced environmental impact processes, Vimar has achieved a remarkable reduction in equivalent CO2 emissions by more than 80%*.
Moreover , with the use of Makrolon® RE, an impressive 97% of parts produced contain ISCC PLUS certified sustainable plastic, underscoring the commitment to sustainability throughout the product lifecycle.
* This corresponds to approximately 500 tonnes per annum, as evaluated through a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach.
We initiated this project in collaboration with Vimar. We are delighted to see how trendsetters in the industry are pioneering sustainability with our materials. Together we are shaping a more sustainable future.
