To support this transformation, Covestro—together with Deloitte—has developed the Monetizing Circular Economy Framework. This award-winning approach helps Covestro, its customers, and value chain partners collaboratively identify and realize profitable opportunities in circular solutions.

The Framework – from strategy to scalable solutions

More than a hundred of Covestro employees contributed to building the Monetize Circular Economy Framework by identifying key requirements for commercializing circular solutions. The Monetize Circular Economy Framework guides the development of sustainable business models through four clear chapters: defining strategy, understanding value circle, designing circular solution and setting price & go-to-market.

Pilot projects were developed and tested during the development of this framework. These real-world pilots formed the robust foundation for refining methodologies, sequencing the effective key steps, and building a scalable approach across products and industries.

A scalable starting point – real connection with our customers for value co-creation 

The joint project with Deloitte on Monetizing Circular Economy Framework provides tools, best practices, and market guidance to drive and accelerate circular solutions’ materialization —empowering Covestro teams to co-create value with our customers and value circles. The project’s impact—both environmental and economic—has drawn wide attention, including from the industry and trade media. In late 2024, the initiative was honored with the WirtschaftsWoche "Best of Consulting" award in the Chemicals, Pharma & Healthcare category.

In practice, the monetization approach is about much more than selling circular and more sustainable products. It’s essential to embed circular thinking into the earliest stages of customer engagement and beyond, and to co-develop solutions through strong partnerships. It’s a marathon, not a sprint—and we know the framework will continue to evolve. What matters most is breaking down silos and working together with partners, customers, and stakeholders across the entire value chain and shape the value-added circle.
