Data privacy

Covestro is aware that the protection of your private information is a very important concern as you use our websites. We take the protection of your personal data very seriously. Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to explain the basic principles we apply in handling your personal data. This information is always provided whenever such data is collected.

If not otherwise indicated in the following sections, Art. 6 (1, b) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) forms the legal basis for how we handle your data to provide you with requested services.

Collecting and processing information

You can use Covestro's website without providing any personal data to us. Some offers and services available on our websites, however, do require personal information to access.

Recording technical access data

When you visit our websites, Covestro uses an automated system to collect data and information. However, this information is not associated with any individual for the purpose of assessing their behavior. Technical access data saved in server log files includes, for instance, the following data:

  • Information on the user’s browser type and version
  • The user’s operating system
  • The user's internet service provider
  • The user’s IP address
  • The date and time of access
  • Websites by which the user’s system was referred to our website (referrer)
  • Websites accessed by the user’s system through our website.

Data is processed to deliver the content of our website, to ensure the functionality of our IT systems, and to optimize our website, as well as to protect our justifiable interests and clarify any issues in case of unauthorized access or attempts to access our website (Art. 6 (1, f GDPR).

Cookies

Our websites use cookies. These are files saved on the user's computer system by their web browser. Cookies can be transmitted to the user’s browser when they access a page, and are used to identify the user. Cookies help simplify the use of websites for users.

You can prevent cookies from being saved by changing your browser settings at any time. Saved cookies can be deleted at any time.
We would like to note that, if you deactivate cookies, you may not be able to use all of the functions of our website to their fullest extent.

Cookies on this website*

* Cookies that are usually deleted at the end of the session and cookies that do not contain any personal data (technical cookies) are not listed here.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is integrated into our website. This text is intended to explain the integration and function of this service.

Google Analytics is a web analytics service from Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, United States (hereafter: Google). Google Analytics is a web analytics tool, which can be used to further improve websites by analyzing users’ interaction with them. Google Analytics also uses cookies (text files saved on your computer, which enable an analysis of how websites are used). The information created by the cookie about your use of this website is generally transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there.

The information saved by Google Analytics cookies includes the date and time the website was visited, the frequency with which the user visited the website and the user’s approximate location. To determine the user’s approximate location, Google first records the user’s IP address. On our website, however, we have activated IP anonymization. As a result, within the member states of the European Union or in other contracting states to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, your IP address is shortened by Google before it is transmitted to the USA; for example, by deleting the last octet of IPv4 user IP addresses or the last 80 bits of IPv6 addresses.

On our behalf, Google will use the above-mentioned information to evaluate your use of the website, compile reports about website activities and provide the website operator with additional services connected with the use of the website and the intertnet.

The IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics is not used in connection with other data from Google. Google is also certified in the EU-US Privacy Shield, so that an appropriate level of data protection is established for your data in the USA.

In addition to deselecting the cookies set by Google Analytics on this page, you can also prevent the storage of cookies by Google Analytics by making the appropriate settings in your browser software ("Private Mode", found under Settings in most browsers). It should be noted once again, however, that in this case you may not be able to make full use of all functions of this website.

In addition, you can prevent Google from collecting the data, which is generated by the cookie and related to your use of the website (including your IP address), and from processing this data by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available at the following link: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de.

Additional information on data protection in relation to Google Analytics can be found directly on Google.

Marketo Marketing Data Management

Covestro and its regional subsidiaries are using data and communication technology to process and profile personal information (data) for marketing communication purposes. The marketing communication purpose aims to inform individuals, who interact with Covestro, about events, products and job function or industry relevant information.
The data processing does imply the collection of information that applies to known and unknown users of Covestro web pages as well as known prospects and customers with and without contractually agreed business relationships.
The collection of the information does include demographics (e.g. First Name, Last Name, Professional Function), firmographics (e.g. name of company, country of company, industry of company), behavioural (e.g. registration to a particular webinar, download of a specific product data sheet), transactional (e.g. requested a quote, signed a contract) and consent data (e.g. accepted the privacy statement). We use cookies (_mkto_trk) as part of tracking so we have information on email open rates and click through rates.
The management of the data does imply the match and merge of current with historical information. This kind of data processing does apply to information that is coming from the same source (e.g. same web form filled out twice) as well as for data coming from different sources (e.g. contact form filled out and asked for a brochure as a follow-up from a visit at a Covestro booth during a fair). The matching criteria in use is the combination of the last name with the e-mail address or the last name with the WeChat identifier.
The aim of collecting and managing the above mentioned information is the creation of a contact profile. The contact profile is enriched by applying analytical and statistical methods based on heuristical algorithms. This approach is also known as contact scoring and segmentation.
The above data processing is only performed upon a the positive consent of the affected individual. The individual can revoke his or her consent at anytime. Either by using a revoke-link provided in each communication or by using the contact e-mail address within this privacy statement to request the revoke of consent.

In some cases, your data may also be processed in countries outside the European Union (“EU”) or European Economic Area (“EEA”), areas which may have a lower level of data privacy protection than the EU. In such cases, we establish contractual agreements or other methods with our contractual partners for ensuring they provide a sufficient level of protection for your data, or we ask you for your explicit consent.
