Product description
Desmoderm® Additive Z is an aliphatic polyisocyanate based on hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). As the hardener component for lightfast polyurethane solutions.
Applications
The amount of Additive Z is generally from 2 – 10 %. When used in combination with suitable solvents and pigments (e.g. Bayderm® B and/or C Colors), Desmoderm® Additive Z has a pot life of 2 - 3 days. The use of Bayderm® A flüssig dyestuffs reduces the pot life to 2 – 4 hours. Suitable solvents are diacetone alcohol, cyclohexanone, tertiary butanol, dimethyl formamide, possibly combined with toluene, xylene or mixtures thereof.Common alcohols reduce the pot life to 3 – 4 hours. When applied in multiple layers (e.g. for demanding finishes applied via the transfer coating process), Desmoderm® Additive Z should only be added to the topmost layer of the finish (i.e. the first coat applied to the separation layer).

Solubility / thinnability
Compatibility with the following solvents is generally good but the storage stability of the respective solutions should be tested.Desmoderm® Additive Z is reducible with ester and aromatic hydrocarbons such as ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, 1-methoxypropyl acetate-2, toluene and xylene. Aliphatic hydrocarbons are unsuitable.Desmoderm® Additive Z should not be thinned to less than 35 – 40 % non-volatile content. Prolonged storage of a solution with lower binder content may result in turbidity and sedimentation. Only PU grade solvents should be used (< 0.05 % water, free of reactive groups like hydroxyl or amino groups).
Storage
- Storage in original sealed Covestro container. - Recommended storage temperature: 5 - 25 °C. - Protect from moisture, heat and foreign material. General information: The product is sensitive to moisture. Storage at higher temperatures will result in increase of color and viscosity. Storage at significant lower temperatures will result in solidification. This solidification is reversible by briefly heating the product without adversely affecting the quality of the product.
Storage time
Covestro represents that, for a period of nine months following the day of shipment as stated in the respective transport documents, the product will meet the specifications or values set forth in section "specifications or characteristic data" above, what ever is applicable, provided that the product is stored in full compliance with the storage conditions set forth in and referenced under section "storage" above and is otherwise handled appropriately.The lapse of the nine months period does not necessarily mean that the product no longer meets specifications or the set values. However, prior to using said product, Covestro recommends to test such a product if it still meets the specifications or the set values. Covestro does not make any representation regarding the product after the lapse of the six months period and Covestro shall not be responsible or liable in any way for the product failing to meet specifications or the set values after the lapse of the six months period.
