A Dispercoll® U success story
Thermally laminated 3D furniture fronts, an important segment in the furniture industry, are primarily used in the bathroom and kitchen, but also in living areas. Waterborne polyurethane (PUD) adhesives are the dominant technology for high heat-resistant 3D lamination thanks to their fast build-up of bond strength and reliable bonding in automated production processes.
Despite the multiple benefits of well-established Waterborne polyurethane (PUD) adhesives, there is still room for improving the durability of the products in highly demanding environments with high temperatures and humidity, e.g., in specific areas of a kitchen and bathroom.
Jowat has developed a reactive 1K adhesive based on new Dispercoll® U 66 from Covestro. Over a period of eight weeks, this novel adhesive displayed significantly higher bond strength values than standard reactive 1K adhesives under highly demanding climate conditions (see chart). Jowat’s customer Schnell has tested the technology on an industrial production line and confirmed that it is a drop-in solution. Dr. Guse, Head of R&D Polymer Dispersions & Special Adhesives at Jowat SE: “Jowat’s goal as an innovative leader in the adhesives industry is to always find the perfect solution for our customers. Covestro is always an innovative partner, especially with their Dispercoll® U portfolio.”
For years to come, fronts bonded with Jowat water-based adhesives will demonstrate the high performance of Dispercoll® U.
